Playstation 3 here to stay!
Over the past months, we’ve seen quite a few examples of developers being unsatisfied with the development demands on the Playstation 3. In the particular case of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, the PS3 version was delayed due to unforeseen difficulties in developing the port.
Now, it appears as if it’s a completely deliberate decision from Sony. In a quote reported by CNET, Sony executive Kaz Hirai defends the development demands as a long-term benefit for Sony.
According to Hirai, it’s best so secure better and better games over the years instead of maximizing a console’s potential after the first or second year.
Kaz Hirai says:
- We don’t provide the ‘easy to program for’ console that (developers) want, because ‘easy to program for’ means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so then the question is, what do you do for the rest of the nine-and-a-half years?
